Last week in music class…

… 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes attended Sounds of Home, a youth concert hosted by the Oregon Symphony Orchestra at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The range of music included variations on the shaker tune, “Simple Gifts,” music from Mexico and Brazil, and a Latin arrangement of Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in d minor.” A new work was also debuted by an 11 year old composer! The students enjoyed learning what a clave rhythm is and how to clap it in a 2-3 or 3-2 pattern! This field trip is the culmination of a month long music unit on orchestra instrument families. The students were excited to see a harp, and they watched the cellos and basses spin their instruments while they played the Latin rhythms. It was a great morning!
