Professional Background: Rev. Philip Heidt pastored two churches in California before his present call to Christ Community Church, in Tualatin, Oregon. At St. Stephen’s Academy, he teaches 7th grade Bible.
Philosophy of Education: Rev. Heidt defines education by tracing mankind’s story, as the Bible tells it. Though God created humanity with remarkable abilities to comprehend and manipulate the world around us, our own sin kicked us into a state of moral devastation and mental deterioration. Graciously, God sent his Son to bring truth and new life to broken sinners; believers in Christ rediscover the ultimate purpose of learning: the glory of God and enjoyment of Him.
All education is good, if pursued for right reasons, but Bible-learning has this privilege: it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. To be Bible-educated, Augustine of Hippo offers the method: “understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore do not seek to understand in order to believe, but believe that you may understand.”
