Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies

by Kylie G., 5th Grade
Last Friday, September 28th, the Fifth Grade class went to visit the two Kindergarten classes, Mrs. Marshall’s class and Miss Lau’s class. There were two purposes for the visit. First, we wanted them to know that if they have a problem, the Fifth Graders would do their best to help out. Secondly, that we are not someone to be afraid of, but a friendly face in the hall. I believe that we accomplished this when we read to them and talked to them.

Before we left to go to their classrooms, Mrs. Cybulski, or Mrs. C as the Kindergarten class calls her, paired us up into groups of two. Each group was given a lollipop and a picture book. When we got to their classrooms, each pair went over to a kindergarten student. We asked them a few questions and let them ask us questions. Then, each pair read a book to their student. When the book was over, we gave them a lollipop. And if there was extra time, we asked more questions. I believe this was a good experience for the Kindergarten classes and for us.
