12 Feb Mock Trial Regionals
The location for the Mock Trial Regional Competition on Saturday, February 27, has been changed to the Multnomah County Courthouse in downtown Portland. The St. Stephen’s Mock Trial Team will compete in three trials throughout the day, most likely between 9:00am – 5:00pm, alternately arguing for the prosecution or defense. Our students are arguing a criminal case involving basketball, school spirit gone awry, Rohypnol, and the lasting power of social media images. Yes, mock trial is entertaining and fun, but it’s also an ideal culminating activity for our high school students. It synthesizes their required logic, linguistic, research, and rhetoric skills with a new requirement to analyze current cultural trends and events in light of the theology and philosophy they learn at St. Stephen’s. If you would like to join us, please contact Mrs. Bergeron prior to the competition so you can receive updated information about the event. Please allow 30 minutes to go through security as you enter the courthouse, and do not bring weapons or tear gas of any kind.
