Last week in 3rd grade…

… we enjoyed a beautiful day at Jackson Bottom Wetlands. This is an annual field trip to observe the biodiversity that exists in the wetlands after the water has receded from winter. This year, the class went a month later than usual, and we were able to see many more plants and creatures out soaking up the sunshine. The students looked carefully at insects, rabbits, heron, and other animals. They also made predictions about plant and soil diversity in various types of land within the wetlands.

After the hike, the class had a picnic at the White family heritage farm in Hillsboro. There the students learned about farm machinery, grains being grown, and the concept of crop rotation. They also learned some history of the family, who immigrated here on the Oregon Trail. They also enjoyed running all over the farm. The whole day was fun and memorable!
