Last month in 4th grade…

… we went on a field trip to see three churches in downtown Portland. We were finishing a unit in Medieval architecture and were looking for Romanesque and Gothic styles. First, we drove to The Parish of St. Mark, where there is a beautiful altar, stained glass, and several vibrant paintings throughout the building. Next, we traveled to Trinity Episcopal Church. This church has a huge organ, and when the organist began to play a hymn, the organ was so loud that everyone plugged their ears and ran to the back of the church! Finally, we went to First Presbyterian Church, where we admired the beautiful woodwork. Everyone was very excited to know that there was an upstairs balcony. From the balcony, you could see the whole church! Lastly, both classes would like to thank Mr. Southgate for leading us on this amazing tour.
