RETURN TO ARROW NEWS

The St. Stephen’s Academy Archer Track & Field team competed in the 2017 1A-District 1 Championships on Fri-Sat (May 12-13) at Portland Christian School.  Amidst the rain, wind, lightning and sunshine, the 2017 Archer team represented the school very well.  The Girls’ team came in 2nd overall out of 12 schools with 86 points, missing 1st place in the team scoring competition by only 4 points.  The Boys’ team finished 7th in the overall team competition.

In 2014, St. Stephen’s Academy made its debut at the Oregon State Championships by sending 2 athletes to compete in 2 events.  The Archers followed that in 2015 by adding a relay team, resulting in 6 athletes in 6 events at the State meet.  Archers Track reached an all time high last year by sending 9 athletes to compete in 13 events.
This year, 8 Archer athletes will be competing in 9 events this Thursday and Friday at the 2017 OSAA State Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Other Archer athletes finished the season on a high note:

On the girls’ side,  Emma M. shocked the world by advancing through the prelim round of the 200m to join first place teammate Sydney R. on the podium with a 7th place finals finish.  Freshman wunderkind Hannah H. leaped her way to a 3rd place overall finish in the long jump while also joining first place Sydney R. on the awards podium in the 100m dash with a 4th place finish.  Emmie C. finished her freshman season by establishing new PRs in the 400m, 200m and long jump.  Tri-captain Jane S. completed her distance running career at St. Stephen’s with podium finishes in both the 3,000 and 1,500m runs.
Head Coach Joe Storm and the entire coaching staff are immensely proud of these Archers and look forward to the culmination of a rainy season of hard work and dedication at the State meet in Eugene.
