5th Grade Frog Dissection

5th Grade Frog Dissection

St. Stephen’s Academy’s 5th grade students had an amazing biological opportunity recently. They had just been studying was the macrosystems of the human body: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, skeletal, muscular, and integumentary. They learned why systems are important to organisms, why we should study the systems of the body, and many of the components designed as part of each system. As a culmination to this unit, the students traveled to the Upper School to dissect frogs with the help of Upper School schoolmates. Under the leadership of Upper School science teacher, Mrs. Holt, these Upper School students, including Miss Sydney Radigan, their very own student teacher, helped, encouraged, and answered many questions as the 5th grade students, investigated and then identified the systems and components of their dissected frog. What an amazing opportunity to have this hands-on investigation at such a young age with fellow students who also enjoy the study of God’s creation, order, function, and beauty. This was also a testimony of the partnership across campuses that makes St. Stephen’s Academy so unique as students model to each other the joy of learning that lasts a lifetime.
