How do you offer such a high quality education for a comparatively low tuition?
St. Stephen’s Academy is a private, independent, not-for-profit ministry of Evergreen Presbyterian Church. We receive no funding from Evergreen and are a separate 501(c)(3) organization. We rely on tuition and donations to fund all of our operations. We are able to maintain a low cost structure due to the sacrifice of our staff, the generosity of our supporters, and the significant volunteer efforts of our families. We also focus our resources to the core mission of the school, providing an academically excellent education, instead of attempting to serve everyone in all areas of the educational system. We are laser focused on providing a rigorous, Christ centered education in the classical tradition to families that value this kind of education. This focus allows us to be efficient with our resources.
Do you get any public money?
Like all ACCS schools, we refuse all government money offered to private schools that has any strings attached. This allows all schools in the association to be truly free. Free to offer students an education that can include topics regardless of their Christian or political nature. Since all truth is God’s truth, this allows us to offer a truly liberal (free) education that finds its source in Christ. Taking this stand also keeps us free from the government testing and state teacher certification bureaucracy that consume time and effort and yield little in terms of results in the classroom.
Is St. Stephen’s Academy just for rich families that can afford a private, elite education?
It is true that a private education is a financial commitment for every family, but St. Stephen’s Academy is committed to not turning away any student due to financial reasons. We commit at least 10% of our annual budget each year to need-based scholarships.
How do your tuition and fees compare to other area private schools?
Tuition Comparison of Area Schools for 2016-17
All curriculum, supplies, field trips, standardized testing (where applicable), yearbook, house activities, protocol dinner, Upper School trip
Uniforms, electronic devices, athletics, clubs, and lunches
We want to serve our community by providing an affordable educational alternative that honors Christ and keeps Him at the center of all we do. We make every effort to open St. Stephen’s to all students who meet its entrance requirements.
Financial aid is available. St. Stephen’s Academy uses the services of Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) in determining the amount of financial aid for which a family may qualify. The FAST application is separate from the St. Stephen’s application and must be submitted to FAST by March 1, in order to be considered in the first round of financial aid awards for the following school year. (For new families applying for financial aid after this date, the request may be considered at the discretion of the board and awarded based on funds available.) Financial aid decisions will be communicated by April 1.
