This week in 4th Grade…

… the students enjoyed a morning at Jackson Bottom Wetlands as an extension of their study of birds. They donned binoculars and set out with a guide to explore the trails around the wetlands, looking for native birds. The students spotted several species of geese, a Bald Eagle, a Northern Harrier, a Kingfisher, and a Red-tailed Hawk to name a few. The guides showed them different nests, explaining what each was made of and why a bird uses that specific material for his nest. Did you know a Robin makes several nests, sitting hours a day in each one? This way, any predators looking for her eggs do not know which nest contains the eggs and which nest is empty. The students enjoyed seeing and learning more about God’s unique creation in birds.
