St. Stephen’s Academy is hoping to very soon, in partnership with our sponsoring church Evergreen Presbyterian Church, secure the purchase of a new long term permanent facility for the first time in our 18 year history. The Cooley Science Center, located on the border of Hillsboro and Beaverton, has served as a hub of science innovation since its construction in 1993 as part of the former Oregon Graduate Institute. This facility would be repurposed and refitted to serve as a hub of classical Christian education and evangelism for the two organizations.
The building comprises almost 78,000 square feet of floor space, some of which will be converted from laboratory space into classrooms, music and art rooms, a library, a sanctuary that will also support assemblies and drama performances, and a commercial kitchen and fellowship hall that will support school lunches. There is also outdoor space for playgrounds, a field, and outdoor education space. Finally, there will be plenty of parking lot space for safe pickup and dropoff. The school’s long term vision is to grow from our current 257 student school to around 450 students with two classes per grade and a roughly 100 student high school. This facility will allow us to pursue this vision.
The initial phase will involve retrofitting the facility, which we anticipate should be completed in time to start the 2018-19 school year. A future phase will involve the construction of a gymnasium to support Archers athletics. If you would like to be a part of supporting this project please follow the link to our Capital Campaign.
