HOW CAN I APPLY?

"When we came to Oregon from out of state, we had the option to move to any area within a reasonable drive from Portland. We chose to settle in Beaverton because of St. Stephen's Academy. The warm, caring atmosphere of the school, along with the academic strength and classical focus, were exactly what we wanted for our children."

Offerings and Emphasis

Pre-Grammar (K-2)

We harness our youngest students' natural curiosity and excitement about learning through singing, chanting, reciting, painting, and drama. By the end of this stage, students have a solid foundation in spelling, writing, reading, and math, focusing on the basic rules and facts of each subject.

Grammar (3-6)

Memorization comes naturally to children at this stage, and we capitalize on this by teaching songs, games, drills, drama, and chants that students can easily assimilate. We begin teaching Latin in the 3rd grade, as it is a foundation for the learning of many other subjects.

Logic (7-9)

The emphasis in these years is on reasoning skills; the study of formal logic begins in 8th grade. Teaching to this stage taps into the student's curiosity and the desire to judge, debate, critique, and organize. We implement a worldviews curriculum that integrates philosophy, theology, literature, music, art, history, and science.

Rhetoric (10-12)

In the upper grades, students will learn how to express themselves clearly and persuasively. Through in-depth research projects; speeches and debates; drama; oral presentations; and worldview discussions and written papers, students will develop their abilities to construct and defend a thesis.
